MSHL Meeting Monday, February 9, 2004 Eddie Edgar Arena, 7:39 p.m. Meeting Overview Passed around sign-in sheet January minutes were reviewed and approved - Amy Martin motioned to pass the minutes and Derek Fuciarelli seconded. Treasurer's Report Derek Fuciarelli reported the Ruicci Cup fees that have been collected amount to $8,150, bringing the balance to $16,349.27. Expenses for the month include: year-end tax deduction fee of $25, $45 web site maintenance, and $50 to cover the cost of the meeting room for 2 months. Derek will cut a check to MAHA for$100 in tournament sanction fees for the Ruicci Cup. Old Business Ruicci Cup Amy Martin said the schedule is being developed - 5 divisions with 5 teams (only Advanced A will not have a division). There will be some games on Thursday night and on Sunday morning at Devon-Aire Arena in Livonia. Referees and scorekeepers are being looked in to currently. MVPs will be awarded for each division with medals (recycled from past years) and t-shirts to first place teams in each division. Last year $600 was spent on medals and $450 on t-shirts. The Stingrays (host team) brought up discussion around what items should be handed out as "awards" - medals, t-shirts, pins, or hats. Opinion varied on the topic: t-shirts are usually pretty accepted by most people, some of the more experienced players would rather not collect more medals, pins are good to put on jackets, etc. Players will be required to sign in at the beginning of the tournament only, and then receive some type of "pass" to indicate they are rostered and registered to play. A question came up about raffles being done at the Ruicci Cup - the host team needs to check with the rink to see if they can, but they would be able to keep the proceeds and not have to turn it over to the league. The photographer in past years paid the league 10% to take pictures at the Ruicci Cup. Arrangements will possibly be made to have him there again. New Business Divisional Game Scheduling Errors In Advanced B there was a scheduling mix-up, and the other team did not show up for the game. Division Scheduler (Donna Hocko) put the game on the master list, but not on the individual list of the team that did not show up. Some members of the Board feel the league should cover the cost of the referees, as it was the mistake of the Scheduler, who is a representative of the league, and the teams should not be penalized. Other members of the Board feel the teams are responsible to follow up on their game schedules, and though it falls on the Division Director and Scheduler, the league should not be responsible to cover the costs as it was not a league error. A suggestion was made that each team split the costs of having to reschedule; another suggestion was to look at what would make the teams the most satisfied. The Board decided to make the recommendation that the teams be responsible for these costs, and suggested that each team split the fees. Game Conditions The Flyers played against the Nighthawks in Hartland Arena and the pegs were missing from the goalie net. The question arose if the game could have been protested and it can be for a fee ($50) but must be brought up at the beginning of the game. USA Hockey has a rule that states the pegs must be placed in the net for a game. The meeting was adjourned at 8:24 pm by Terry Matthews and seconded by Amy Martin. Next league meeting is March 1, 2004 at 7:30pm in the Eddie Edgar Arena.
