May meeting minutes were approved by Kristen Drabicki and seconded by Amy Martin. Treasurer’s Report As of July 15, the account balance is $2,894.70. ~ There are outstanding bills for the meeting room rental and web site maintenance. ~ The Windsor Rush is still owed their $100 refund from the Ruicci Cup. Contact from Joanne Lukasik has gone unanswered; money will be held over for next season to avoid currency exchange rates. Old Business Board positions are official as of July 15: Joanne Lukasik – President Terry Mathews – Vice President/Ruicci Cup Co-Chair Amy Martin – Vice President/Ruicci Cup Co-Chair Kristen Drabicki – Treasurer Renee Dobrzelewski – Secretary Carrie Sirola – MAHA Rep. Player Age Limit: Following up from the last meeting, Terry Mathews did create a draft of the wording on a possible rule change involving the player age limit. Joanne Lukasik will contact the original requestors of the rule change to clarify what they would like it to state. A suggestion was made that the league should offer suggestions/guidelines on how to change a rule. Carrie Sirola stated MAHA has a form one can submit to change a rule and will modify it to have the form posted on the league web site. New Business League Fees: Joanne Lukasik asked for a review of our current league fees, which are $150 per team. She inquired if the Board felt they needed to be adjusted. Everyone felt comfortable with the current fee, noting that we were able to run the league and the Ruicci Cup with those monies. Amy Martin suggested if/when the fees are raised, teams should be given a year’s notice to incorporate the new amount in to their team fees. Ruicci Cup: Carrie Sirola advised the Board that the Eddie Edgar Arena in Livonia has the second and third weekends in March available for the Ruicci Cup if we are interested in booking them. It was decided the weekend of March 10th was the better choice, provided States are not being held then, and Carrie would unofficially book it with the rink. The Stingrays have offered to host the tournament again if no other teams step forward; it will be opened up to the league at the August meeting. Officials Committee: Amy Martin brought a proposal to the Board about having a committee with a Referee-in-Chief to act as a liaison between teams in the league and referees. Amy nominated Adrianna Sable to head up an Officials Committee. Suggestions were made as to the role of this new committee, including the creation of a booklet to be used as a reference in terms of women’s hockey rules; the liaison maintaining a list of referee schedulers should they need to contact them to address an issue; records could be maintained on individual referees so data could be compiled. A question did come up about the role of the league in regards to solving problems around officiating, as they have not been involved in the past. The Board felt this was an area that needed to be addressed by the league, as teams had run across issues in the past with their referees. Committee information will be posted on the league web site and teams will be asked to bring the name and contact information of their Referee Scheduler to the August meeting. Amy Martin has also talked to Bob Steele about women officiating in MAHA and will be the contact for women interested in becoming referees. Goaltenders: Carrie Sirola spoke with Bob Steele about MAHA guidelines in terms of goalie subs. Terry Mathews has created some wording for the rules that states goalies can sub for other teams (in their division or lower ONLY). There was discussion about maintaining a list of goalies on the league web site that could be used as subs. MAHA/USA Hockey: Bob Steele would like MAHA to host Nationals in 2007, preferably an association or league rather than an arena would host. USA Hockey has a process to register individual players online for adult hockey. At this time, however, teams are not able to register and must still do this with a registrar. Anyone interested in volunteering at the State tournament (and in the planning stages), should contact Carrie Sirola. Senior women hockey players are encouraged to help out this effort. Letters of Intent to play in the league are due to Joanne Lukasik by July 31 – no exceptions!! Submitting a letter of intent does not obligate a team to play in the league but does allow the Board to review the number of potential teams and divisions before the August meeting. Kristen Drabicki motioned to adjourn the meeting at 8:30p.m. and it was seconded by Adrianna Sable.
