Michigan Senior Women’s Hockey League Meeting Minutes ~ September 24, 2007 Attendees: Board Members: Joanne Lukasik, Terry Mathews, Lisa Mello, Carrie Sirola, Ann Dobija Brad & Mary Beth Johnson (Detroit Dragons), Val Murray (Ice Pack), Sherri Wright (Ice Pack), Pam Kangas (Iron Maidens), Robyn Elliot (Black Beauty), Michele Monson (Polar Bears), Deb Honsowetz (Iron Maidens), Valerie Edgington (The Other Team), Kathy Ostrowski (Spitfires), Carol Schwanger (The Other Team), Laura William (The Other Team) President Joanne Lukasik called the meeting to order at 7:07 p.m. Treasurer’s Report Joanne reported that she didn’t have an accurate balance to date but we did not have any expenses just deposits from team fees for the last month. A balance will be given at the next meeting. Old Business * The Handbook has been updated and is on the website. * Rec II and Intermediate II still need to send in their division schedule to Ann for posting to the website * DUE September 28th- Official copy of signed USA Hockey Roster and signed handbook page to Joanne Lukasik. * DUE to Ann Dobija- player/coaches list with jersey numbers and rink for posting to the website. New Business * The Other Team and Spitfires agreed to host the 2008 Ruicci Cup. Dates/rink TBD. * Score sheets were passed out to Division Directors; contact your Director if your team needs score sheets. * Goalie Sub list- contact Lisa Mello at ltmello@umich.edu, if you would like to be added to the goalie sub list. See the MSWHL rules for information regarding use of sub goalies. * Division Statisticians need to send updates to Ann Dobija at adobija@aol.com at least once a month for posting to the website. MAHA/USA Hockey Report Carrie Sirola reported that any teams interested in states/nationals needs to respond by November 14, 2007. A letter will be going to all teams soon for response. MSWHL Development Clinics There was discussion of whether to continue these this year. Kathy Ostrowski (Spitfires) has talked to Larry Knapp from Hazel Park rink about running them. She will find out more information from him and get back to the Board. Other Issues * Player Appeal (Tracy Kangas) Iron Maidens: Joanne Lukasik reported that the Iron Maidens have filed an appeal regarding the Board’s decision to either have Tracy move up to play with a team at her skill level or the Iron Maidens could move up as a team. For the record the decision to move Tracy was an ENTIRE Board decision and not that of one Board member as implied in the four page letter the Board received. This attack on a Board member is unjustified and uncalled for. Tracy was not singled out in anyway. The Board responds to complaints and investigates and makes a decision. Several of the Board members watched her play in Ruicci Cup and it verified that her skill level is above the Intermediate II division level. There was a lengthy discussion about the process for moving players and specific players in the Intermediate II division. The Iron Maidens have asked for a probationary period for Tracy and the Board will discuss and make a decision. * Player payment issue (Black Ice) - they have filed a complaint regarding a player (Megan Rayburn) that they picked up to play in a tournament who still owes them $60. It appears from recent emails that the player will pay the fees originally owed. Since this is not a league issue because the tournament was not a sanctioned MSWHL event the league will look to the player to correct the situation with the Black Ice. * Kathy (Spitfires) asked if it was ok for the Recreation II division to purchase their own trophy to be given to the regular season champion. The trophy would be purchased with money obtained from the teams. * Michele Monson has an interest in starting a 30+ league.
