MSHL October 18, 2004 Meeting President Joanne Lukasik called the meeting to order at 7:38 p.m. Minutes from September 15 meeting were reviewed; Melanie Bidwell motioned to pass them and Kristen Drabicki seconded. Treasurer's Report Kristen Drabicki reported the league currently has $7,973.42 in their account. A bill to update the Ruicci Cup trophy was submitted for $10 and will be reimbursed from the account. The meeting room rental fee will also be paid. Old Business Ruicci Cup The dates have been changed to March 10-13, 2005. The league has already received a schedule of available ice times for that weekend (a total of 57 hours). Games will begin on a Thursday night and run through Sunday. There have been complaints in the past about teams playing with less than 4 hours of rest between games and/or playing 3 games in a day. While the league makes every effort to ensure fairness, the above are NOT league rules, and occasionally teams will be playing games within a short time frame. MAHA/USA Hockey Carrie Sirola reminded everyone that the State tournament is the first weekend in March. Bob Steele has sent a letter to every team inviting them to play. He requests all teams respond, even if they do not intend to participate. A question was asked about the different senior women's categories. The Senior B classification would be similar to the league's Advanced A division, and Senior C would be like our Advanced B or Intermediate A, possibly even some Intermediate B teams might qualify. Nationals are in Green Bay, WI this year. It was stressed that any team wishing to participate in either tournament ensure they are certain as you are not allowed to withdraw from the event, and any team that does so can be suspended for 1 year, as well as the district they play in. There is a player on the LadyWings who would like Michigan to bid for the 2007 Nationals. This would involve approximately 48 girls and women's teams in competition over 2 weekends. The player has spoken to USA Hockey, and has brought it to us for our participation as well. Since this is a huge undertaking, the Board would like to meet with the player to discuss preliminary details, and also recommended she discuss this with other associations. New Business Beginner Women's Hockey Clinics Terry Mathews said she has been talking with some players in the league who are concerned about the migration of players to higher divisions in the league, leaving fewer players and teams at the rec level. There has been some discussion about the league running beginner's women hockey clinics to introduce fresh faces to the game. Bob Steele has said he is willing to put some MAHA money towards senior women's hockey, and this might be an idea they would invest in. Some members in the league are going to form a committee and begin to plan a few women's clinics. Miscellaneous There are still a couple teams who do NOT have their own goalies, and cannot use substitutes as they are in the Rec. B division. If you know of anyone interested in goaltending, please encourage her to contact the league. A few teams are missing their player list (with jersey number) for the web site: Ice Cubes, Stingrays, Ice Pack, Ann Arbor Flames, and Capital Crush. Also, the Rec. B division is still missing their first half schedule. We cannot stress this enough ~ make sure your Scorekeepers know what they are doing, and writes things clearly on the score sheet. It is the team's responsibility to ensure this happens. Ineligible sheets will result in a forfeit for the winning team. A motion to adjourn was made by Deb Ruzsvanszki at 8:35 p.m. and was seconded by Melanie Bidwell. Honesty and Respect, Always... ~ Renee Dobrzelewski MSHL Secretary Next meeting is Tuesday, November 16 at 7:00 pm
