METRO SKATERS HOCKEY LEAGUE OCTOBER MEETING MINUTES 7:40 PM October 20, 2003 Eddie Edgar Arena Meeting Overview Pass around sign-in sheet Joanne Lukasik started the meeting at 7:40p.m. Review September meeting minutes - under By-Laws and Regulations, player age needs to be 20 years of age, not 21, as stated in the minutes; Terry Mathews moved to adopt the minutes and Amy Martin seconded. Treasurer's Report There is $8354.27 in the bank; quarterly web host charges of $45 was subtracted from the account - Derek Fuciarelli has been officially designated as the authorizer for the account, and Joanne Lukasik will hand over all of the paperwork to him; all inquiries need to go thru Derek from now on. Old Business: Schedules Division Directors need to ensure all teams have submitted a roster to adobija@aol.com to be posted on the league web site. All schedules are posted; any schedule changes need to go thru the Div. Director and the League. Score sheets Distribution - Terry Mathews has been mailing them out; the score sheets state the last 5 min. should be run time if the goal differential is four or greater; discussion was around whether it should be put in the Rules, if it was a standard the league wished to keep, would it also apply in the playoffs, etc.; this item will be put on the agenda for next month's meeting. Statistician Update - Some stats have been updated but there is no league-wide policy on when stats are to be updated on the web site. Bylaws/Rules & Regulations Terry Mathews added the age requirement statute in to both the league by-laws and rules & regulations. Contact Info League contact information has been updated and has been forwarded to the Division Directors and Board members. Rosters Ann Dobija has asked for rosters from each team to include player name, number, coaches' and manager's names. Please email them to her (see above under Schedules) and copy Joanne Lukasik and the Division Director. Ruicci Cup Tournament No updates at this time but there will be at the next meeting. Game misconducts - There have been a few players to receive a game misconduct, and the league matches the penalty. MAHA rules state that a player has to sit out the next game, even if that game is during a tournament. There was an inquiry as to why the league decided to match the game misconduct, and it was explained that it was an attempt to cut down on penalties in the league and had been successful the last couple of seasons. New Business: Delinquent Ice Bills One of the ex-players from the Motor City Flames, Nicki Shaw, has paid her past ice bill, and that issue has been resolved. The Motor City Flames explained their situation involving the Southfield Hockey Assoc. and Kim Grodus. The team's agreement with the Association was that each player would be responsible for his or her ice bill, regardless of the circumstances. At this point, the Assoc. is in litigation with Kim Grodus to obtain the money. The Motor City Flames are not involved in her outstanding ice bill. The reason the Flames brought this to the Board was because MAHA and MSHL rules state a team is responsible for the outstanding debt. Each player signs a contract with the association about their ice bills, and the team is not named in that contract. The Flames feel the team should not be suspended as the contract was between Kim Grodus and the Assoc., and they have given power of attorney to the Assoc. to handle this matter. The team does not feel they should be penalized for this situation, nor should they be responsible for Kim Grodus' debt. The Board reiterated that MAHA states a player will be suspended from the league while they owe money to another team. The Board discussed the issue further and determined at the time the letter was originally sent to the team, there was not an understanding of how the association worked, or that there was litigation between the assoc. and Kim Grodus. The Board feels they cannot hold the team responsible for the outstanding debt, and therefore, will not be suspending the team from the league. The Board feels the team should be more diligent in tracking players who are behind in fees, regardless of whether the money went to the team or the association. Carrie Sirola will check with Bob Steele, MAHA Women's Director, to see what the league's responsibility is in reporting Kim Grodus' outstanding debt to MAHA, and possible suspension from the league until this matter is resolved. Next meeting scheduled for November 17 at 7:30p.m. in the Eddie Edgar Arena. All Directors are reminded they should be attending the league meetings, or send a replacement.
