Michigan Senior Women’s Hockey League Meeting Minutes ~ October 24, 2007 Attendees: Board Members: Joanne Lukasik, Terry Mathews, Lisa Mello, Carrie Sirola, Ann Dobija, and Johnna Rhone, Lori Stratford (Polar Bears), Sherri Wright (Ice Pack), Cathie Coulter (Ice Pack), Kim Kluse (Phantoms), Robyn Elliot (Black Beauty), Deb Honsowetz (Iron Maidens), Jodi Sandvick (Phantoms), Valerie Edgington (The Other Team), Carol Schwanger (The Other Team), Laura William (The Other Team), Dana Heika (Wildcats), Mary Connelly (Wildcats), Lisa Parsons (Stingrays) President Joanne Lukasik called the meeting to order at 7:09 p.m. Treasurer’s Report Johnna reported that we have a balance of $8569.64. Old Business * Ruicci Cup has been set for April 3-6, 2008, at Eddie Edgar Arena in Livonia. The host teams are Puck n Chicks, The Other Team, and Spitfires. New Business * The process for a team/individual to file a complaint was discussed. Due to past experiences the Board feels that we need to formalize the process more to better communicate with all involved. Going forward the process will now include a form that must be filled out identifying the issue, details, etc. The Board will then take appropriate action and the form will be used to document that action and communicate with those involved. The form will be posted on the website and added to the handbook. Division Directors will be responsible for assisting the board with issues and/or investigation on complaints when needed. * A question about changing a scheduled league game was brought up. The Ice3 has a game they need rescheduled in January 2008 with the Mag-a-ritas. The Mag-a-ritas have said that they do not have any open home ice and have agreed to play the game at the Ice3’s arena but do not want to pay for the refs. There was discussion about the process and on page 32 of the MSWHL Handbook it states that for rescheduling of a game “The Home team shall always be responsible for payment of 2 referees and one scorekeeper. Meaning, if the rescheduled game can only be agreed upon at the originally scheduled VISITING team’s home ice, then the originally scheduled HOME Team assumes the costs for the referees and scorekeeper. The visiting Home team may schedule the referees for the game unless it is agreed upon otherwise with their opponent.” The Ice3 will contact the Mag-a-ritas again with this information. * Joanne reported that she is still missing official USA hockey rosters from the following teams: o Advanced division: McDonald’s o Intermediate I: Mag-a-ritas o Intermediate II: Black Ice, Iron Maidens Division directors please inform these teams that this information is needed ASAP. And any additional players added during the season must be reported to Joanne as well. * The Phantoms have asked that the board look at a player from the Black Ice, Intermediate II (Madeline Salvaggio). They feel her skill level is too good for Intermediate I as she has played several years of youth hockey as well as played with Victory Honda. Using the new Complaint process, the Phantoms will fill out the Complaint form, the Board will contact the Black Ice to inform them of the complaint, and the Division Director will seek input from other teams in the division and report back to the Board. The Board will also watch a game to assess skill level. * The Ice Picks have asked that the Board assist them in receiving monies owed to them from player Ann Fancy for last season. She owes $226 from the period of September 2007-December 2007. The Board will contact her for the payment and until it is paid she will not be permitted to play with another team in the MSWHL. * Kim Mueller has asked the Board to help with receiving payment from player Christina Gallop (Puck n Chicks). She still owes $67.49 from last season’s ice bill. The Board will contact her and give her 7 days to pay the bill otherwise she will be suspended from playing in the league. See Page 29 of the Handbook, “All monies owed by any MSWHL player to her current MSWHL team must be paid in full at the end of each season (i.e. by April of the current year), or at such time as any MSWHL player leaves her current MSWHL team, BEFORE she can register with another MSWHL team. Failure to do so will result in said player’s suspension from all league activities until such financial issues have been resolved”. The Board will contact Christina to inform her that she is suspended from league play until the monies owed are collected. * Division Director Updates: NONE * Website Updates: Division statisticians should be sending division updates/stats to Ann for posting to the website at least once per month. Please send October’s stats by next week. adobija@aol.com MAHA/USA Hockey Report Carrie Sirola reported that Patty Madden from MAHA has sent letters to all MSWHL teams informing them of States/Nationals. If your team is interested you must fill out the form and send in by November 15, 2007. This year Michigan will be able to send 2 Senior B and 2 Senior C teams to Nationals. MSWHL Development Clinics Kathy Ostrowski (Spitfires) has talked to Larry Knapp from Hazel Park rink about running them. He is interested and will do it. The Board needs to know what his financial requirements are. Carrie Sirola has offered to contact him if needed. Other Issues * Carol Schwanger asked if the league would be interested in doing anything for Hockey Day in Michigan. February 17, 2008? She’ll get more information and see how we can get involved and promote women’s hockey and get some exposure for the league. Meeting adjourned at 8:00pm. Lisa Mello MSWHL Secretary ltmello@umich.edu
