Metro Skaters Hockey League November 16, 2004~7:10 p.m. The President, Joanne Lukasik, called the meeting to order. She asked that the October meeting minutes be reviewed; Carrie Sirola motioned to accept them and Terry Mathews seconded. Old Business Ruicci Cup The Stingrays are creating a work plan with a budget close to the $1600 that was allotted last year. Different designs are being considered for the t-shirts. Amy Martin handled scheduling of the referees last year and Kristen will follow up with her. The deadline for entering is Feb. 1; please include a current roster and $350, made payable to the league. Send to Kristen Drabicki: 3731 Royal Ave. Berkley, MI 48072 MAHA/USA Hockey Carrie Sirola reported that the Senior C category only had two entries for States - Varsity Graphics and the Ice Dogs - so they receive an automatic bye in to Nationals. Senior B had five entries so those teams will need to compete at States to determine who is going to Nationals. New Business Michigan Chiefs Joanne Lukasik has been in contact with the Chiefs about three players rostered with them that reside in Texas. While these players are not eligible for league play (according to MSHL rules), they can compete in tournaments and States/Nationals as MAHA and USA Hockey regulate those. Ice Dogs The Advanced B Division Director has received several complaints from teams within the division about the Ice Dogs playing too rough and aggressive. The Board determined if complaints continued to be voiced about the team, then several of them would need to review some of their games before taking any disciplinary action. Beginner's Clinics The league is moving forward with a program to host several clinics for novice skaters. A preliminary proposal has been written and will be finalized before sending to Bob Steele, asking for MAHA grant money to supplement this project. The Arctic Edge has said they would donate ice, and is a possible location for one of the clinics. Ideally the league would like to have three clinics around the metro Detroit area in the spring. Equipment is donated to ice arenas through the ACE program and we could potentially tap in to that resource, as well as collecting items through the league. There was discussion around how and where to publicize the clinics; a few ideas were house leagues, ice arenas, Chicks with Sticks, and the MSHL. Administrivia Statisticians - please send your stats to Ann Dobija pre-sorted. If using Excel, you can sort the standings so it will be ranked from highest to lowest points. Any team that adds players to their roster MUST notify their Division Director and the league by sending copies of the official USA Hockey roster. The Board agreed to make a donation to the family of Val Edgington, a league player who recently lost her husband. Our thoughts and prayers are with her during this difficult time. The meeting was adjourned at 8:20 p.m. The next meeting will be December 14 @ 7PM in Eddie Edgar Arena Honesty and Respect, Always! ~ Renee Dobrzelewski MSHL Secretary
