METRO SKATERS HOCKEY LEAGUE DECEMBER MEETING 7:37 PM December 1, 2003 Eddie Edgar Arena Meeting Overview Pass around sign-in sheet Review October meeting minutes - Amy Martin motioned to pass the minutes and Derek Fuciarelli seconded Treasurer's Report - $8,329.27 balance in account; $25 check cleared for rental of the meeting room, there will be an upcoming bill to have the Ruicci Cup trophy engraved ($60-80) Old Business: Schedules The Board needs to look at teams that might move to a different division before deciding a date to schedule the second half. A question came up about the 6 team division structure and why the teams aren't playing each other within a two-tier division; for example, a team in Senior Recreation B playing a team in Senior Recreation A. They were advised the divisions were split as each had become too large, though skill level was a factor in the structure and would prohibit league play between divisions but scrimmages could be set up. Score sheets Terry Mathews brought some more score sheets in for teams that still needed them. An inquiry was brought up about the league having an over 30 league or division as interest has been expressed. Discussion was raised on how you would determine what level they would play at or if they would play within the MSHL. Further questions came up in regards to MAHA by-laws and if there would be a conflict with the MSHL. A recommendation came from the Board that an over 30 league would be created separate from the MSHL. Amy Martin offered to monitor a "polling" on the league web site to determine how much interest there is. Bylaws/Rules & Regulations - Done Rosters Division Directors need to contact teams that have not provided the league with an updated roster. Teams are asked to send their official USA Hockey roster to the Division Director, the league, and Ann Dobija for posting on the league web site. Ruicci Cup Tournament There will be no games held on a Thursday night this year for the tournament, as the league did not purchase any ice for that day. We do have both sheets of ice at Eddie Edgar Arena on Friday night, totaling 7 hours of ice. The trophy needs a home and it was suggested that it be kept in the arena's locked case since the league meetings are held there. The Ruicci Cup tournament deadline is Feb. 1. Division Directors should inquire with teams to see if they will be participating and forward that information to Derek Fuciarelli. Teams need to have their official USA Hockey roster and $350 to the league by Feb. 1, 2004. Delinquent Ice Bills - After review with MAHA, Carrie Sirola said the rules are in effect until the end of August of a hockey season, and would not apply to a player's rights the following season (in regards to outstanding jersey fees). New Business: State Tournament is the first weekend in March at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube (Senior B & C) Remax Stars, Motor City Flames, Houghton, O'Leary Hawks - Senior B; Varsity Graphics, Belle Tire, Michigan Devils - Senior C Roster Move Request The Flyers in Senior Rec. B have sent a letter to Joanne Lukasik asking to be moved up to Senior Rec. A for the second half of the season. The Flyers provided information along with their stats, including details on the return of their main goalie, the addition of four new skilled players, and falling second place in the division. There was discussion about the new players raising the skill level of the team. The Board decided they had enough information to allow the Flyers to move up to Senior Rec. A. This move does not require a team from Senior Rec. A to move down to B, though the league may ask some teams if they wish to move. Second half scheduling will be done thru the Division Directors and Schedulers outside of a league meeting. Meeting was adjourned at 8:40pm. Next meeting scheduled for January 12, 2004.
